At Coerthas Retrievers, our Labradors are bred from working lines with proven ability, selected for trainability, temperament and long-term soundness.
We breed Labradors because we value what they are meant to be: capable, biddable dogs with the temperament to live well in real homes—not extremes bred for fashion or volume.
Our Labradors
Our Labradors are:
- Working-bred and purposefully selected
- Naturally responsive and easy to train
- Mentally clear and confident without being headstrong
- Physically athletic while remaining balanced and functional
They are dogs that enjoy having a job, structure, and direction—but they are equally expected to settle, live in the home, and be enjoyable companions.
Health-led breeding
Health is not an afterthought in our programme.
All Coerthas Labradors used for breeding:
- Are BVA hip and elbow scored within recommended limits
- Hold current up-to-date clear eye certificates
- Are DNA tested for relevant inherited conditions
We track health and temperament across bloodlines and generations, not just individual dogs, and we breed conservatively to protect welfare and longevity.
Temperament & placement
We do not breed Labradors to suit everyone.
Our Labradors are best suited to:
- Working, training, or competition-minded homes
- Active families who want an engaged, intelligent dog
- Owners who value structure, consistency, and involvement
Puppies are assessed individually and placed based on temperament, drive, and suitability, not colour, speed of enquiry, or deposit order.
