Poppy
Poppy is our newest addition to the Golden Retriever team and is a beautifully bred working Golden Retriever with a lovely, gentle nature. She is still very young, so her personality and working ability are only just beginning to develop, but so far she is a sweet, affectionate and easy-going girl who has settled into our family incredibly well.
Poppy is by OFTAW Think Twice One Shot (Thorn) out of Tallygold Meadow, and we specifically chose her because of the strength and quality of this pedigree. Rather than simply looking for fashionable names or heavily used lines, we wanted a puppy from a classic working Golden Retriever pedigree with proven working ability behind it on both sides.
Her sire Thorn is an Italian-bred working Golden Retriever who has established an impressive working record in the UK. He is a Field Trial Winner and successful Open working test dog, with wins at both Novice and Open level. He was also named Top Dog at the prestigious Chatsworth Country Fair in 2023. His pedigree brings together some fantastic established working Golden Retriever lines, including Kessgold, Froglane and Souter.
Poppy's dam, Tallygold Meadow, also has proven working ability, having gained a Certificate of Merit in Golden Retriever Club competition. This combination of two capable working dogs, together with the depth and consistency of the pedigree behind them, was a huge part of what attracted us to this particular litter.
As Poppy grows, our plan is to train her for gundog work and eventually work her during the shooting season alongside our other dogs. For now, however, there is absolutely no rush. We are enjoying watching her develop, building the foundations of her training and seeing what sort of dog she grows into.
Most importantly, Poppy is first and foremost part of our family. Whatever she goes on to achieve, we hope she will develop into the kind, biddable and capable working Golden Retriever that her pedigree has given her every opportunity to become.
