What we do differently
At Coerthas Retrievers, we go beyond simply breeding dogs—we raise purpose-driven companions with proven ability, sound temperament, and exceptional trainability. Our dogs aren’t just pedigrees on paper; they are active, accomplished individuals who demonstrate excellence in the field and at home.
Proven Performance
All of our breeding dogs are thoroughly proven before they are bred. We believe success should be earned—not assumed. Our dogs regularly compete in Gundog Working Tests and Field Trials, showing real-world ability under pressure. All of them also work on active shoots during the season, showcasing both drive and discipline in practical environments.
Training & Obedience Excellence
Our commitment to development continues off the field. We compete in Kennel Club Obedience events and proudly achieve Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme awards with our dogs—from Bronze through to Gold level. This demonstrates not just intelligence and trainability, but also good manners and adaptability in everyday settings.
Health, Temperament & Enrichment
We prioritise health and temperament just as highly as ability. All of our dogs are fully health-tested according to breed standards and are raised in an enriched, family-centred environment. Early socialisation, noise desensitisation, and exposure to different settings ensure well-rounded puppies.
Lifelong Purpose, Not Just Pedigree
What sets us apart is our intentional breeding strategy. We focus on matching dogs based on temperament, working ability, and sound structure—not just aesthetics. Whether you're looking for a capable gundog, a competitive sport companion, or a steady, trainable family dog, our puppies are bred with a purpose in mind.
Puppy Allocation
We take the matching process very seriously, as our responsibility doesn’t end when the puppies leave. we’re invested in their long-term success and happiness. Each puppy is temperament tested and carefully observed as they grow, giving us a clear understanding of their personality, confidence, drive, and overall suitability for different types of homes.
When it comes to allocating puppies, we use that insight to match each one with the family whose lifestyle, expectations, and experience align best with that particular pup’s temperament. While we absolutely value families’ preferences, choosing a puppy based solely on a 30-minute visit can be misleading. puppies are often tired, overstimulated, or simply not showing their true nature in that short window.
Our goal is to ensure every puppy ends up in the environment where they’ll thrive, whether as a family companion, working dog, or something in between — and that their new owners have the best possible start with the right dog for them.
